Winnipeg Beach

Winnipeg Beach, originally uploaded by mdcellphoto.

I was in Winnipeg Beach for a Classic Car assignment and got the opportunity to walk the boardwalk for a few minutes prior to the shoot.

I took this photo through the eyepiece of my DSLR while it had a 300mm lens and a 1.4 teleconverter on it.

Kind of interesting.

Parking Authority

Parking Authority, originally uploaded by mdcellphoto.

The tall foreheads at the Winnipeg Parking Authority must have been on vacation this summer. Because the person that made the decision to notify resident parking pass holders that they needed to upgrade their pass by giving them parking violation tickets can't be a cream of the crop employee.

A parking ticket! In front of my house! With a pass that was purchased years ago hanging in the window!

My blood pressure probably went through the roof. I was in a bad mood for most of the morning until I could storm into the parking authority office to dispute the ticket.

Then not only did I find out that this was their tactic to get people to renew, but the person who gave me the ticket transposed two letters of my license plate thus voiding the ticket.

If I had been calm enough to carefully read the license # on the ticket I probably would have thrown it away without a thought.

Ugh.

Petting Zoo

Petting Zoo, originally uploaded by mdcellphoto.

The horse nipped Aa's finger, but she still had lots of fun at the Corn Maze south of the city. Lots of cool animals to pet. Bunnies, goats, lambs, a baby cow, big pigs and smaller pigs, a couple of turkeys that A got too close to and a horse ride too.

Then we got lost in the maze before Aa decided to call it quits.

A collision just east of Winnipeg, on the southwest corner of Dugald Road and Hwy 207, has sent four people to hospital. One passenger is 'not looking too good,' according to a Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service captain. RCMP have closed down Hwy 207 in both directions and the westbound lane of Dugald Road.

Main Stage Book Sales

Main Stage Book Sales, originally uploaded by mdcellphoto.

The intermission saw a herd of book lovers swarm the sales table.

I am always amazed that Mariam Toews recognises me. The last time I took her photo was years ago... Maybe I look like someone she knows a bit more.

The three authors from before the intermission were great. Joan Thomas, Saleema Nawaz, Maurice Mierau.

Elton John concert, originally uploaded by mdcellphoto.

Is it cheating if I take a cellphone photo of a screen with a photo I took using my work SLR?

I wasn't about to pull out the phone while shooting this. Can you imagine... "sorry boss I didn't get THE shot, wait! Its on my phone at 2MP. Would that work for you?"

House fire on Hampton

House fire on Hampton, originally uploaded by mdcellphoto.

A house fire at 294 Hampton gutted the small bungalow. No injuries were reported.

The house had many trees in the front yard and we were across the street, so photo opportunities were limited. I sneaked down the back lane and got this shot along the side of the house.

Garden Party

Garden Party, originally uploaded by mdcellphoto.

I was sent to a retirement home to shoot a standalone photo of their 20th anniversary Roarin' '20s Garden Party.

Some vintage cars were on display for the residents to check out and some took the opportunity to climb aboard and reminisce.

Ken and Beryal Fallis taught me a thing or two about the Model-T. In the video Ken explains the basics while the owner of the 1921 Model-T, Reta Rosendahl pitches in with some comments. The car was purchased by her husbands father in '21 for $345.

Gimli beach

Gimli beach, originally uploaded by mdcellphoto.

Spent a good day in Gimli with the girls. We watched as a boat was taken out of the lake by a crane and ran up and down the boardwalk until Aa got upset that other people were using the stairs.

We walked the beach and looked at a dead fish in the water. Aa got into a "loop" of finding rocks to throw at standing pool of yucky water.

Of course the search for shells and cool stones netted Aa a pocket full.

When she finally fell asleep we got hamburgers and the largest order of fries EVER.

So gi-normous posting a photo would just turn you off.

My Aa loves the new paints

My Aa loves the new paints, originally uploaded by mdcellphoto.

The $1.95 set of watercolour paints was pretty much used up after only a couple of hours of continuous use this afternoon. I managed to find some extra brushes from my university days in Fine Arts so that A and I could take part in the fun. Aa had a death grip on the brush that came with the set.

It was very cool to watch her test each colour then move on to mixing two then three and more for different effects.

At one point she made a circle with a line coming out the bottom. When I told her that she made a nice tree she immediately went to the pink and announced that it needed some apples.

Best $2 ever spent! Thanks A for insisting.

Foamy Fountain Delight

Foamy Fountain Delight, originally uploaded by mdcellphoto.

After breakfast today we noticed that the fountain on Broadway was full of foam as though someone had dumped some dish soap in it. Our daughter didn't know what to make of it. Is this scary or fun? Of course A's shouts of delight sounded a lot like screams of fear which didn't help Aa at all.

Let's put it this way, there was lots of screaming and shouting that ended in me carrying Aa to the car in a desperate atempt to ward off a headache and some of my own shouting.
