Bubbles! Bubbles! Bubbles!

Bubbles! Bubbles! Bubbles!, originally uploaded by mdcellphoto.

Fun with bubbles. Spent a few minutes with the girl spreading a fine mist of soap(?) on my parents front lawn today. What is in those bubble bottles anyway? It was good fun.

Day of Action

Day of Action, originally uploaded by mdcellphoto.

Curly Mousseau quietly stood off in the background by himself with his flag during the couple of hours I spent at today's Aboriginal Day of Protest. He told me he tries to go to as many gatherings as he can across the country with the flag which originally belonged to his cousin Ruby. He carries it in her honour years after she passed away.

Off the beaten path

Off the beaten path, originally uploaded by mdcellphoto.

The end of a special weekend and a nice romp through our favorite place. The girl was reunited with her favorite person (yes I know my place), she spent much time following close behind or contentedly in A's arms. It was good.

Dandelion Park

Dandelion Park, originally uploaded by mdcellphoto.

Our first Teddy Bear Picnic was a low key affair. Too many kids and big scary mascots kept the girl in the wagon. Of course she desides on the way to the car that she wants to run around. The field of yellow flowers was a nice distraction. Does dandelion pollen stain?

While the little girl had some "buckle time!" with her car seat I looked off into nothing for a few seconds. Coming to, I realized the setting sun was nicely placed in the car window.

The muddy path and girly screams of "Up! Up!" meant that our day at Fort Whyte Alive was going to be OK at best.

Cool bag lady

Cool bag lady, originally uploaded by mdcellphoto.

Got the opportunity to meet a woman in Niverville who makes messenger bags using old cloth. She also donates all the money to the UN's effort in Darfur.

Will update with her blog address later. (when I'm not driving.)

UPDATE: Well this was a great assignment, I had a lot of fun visiting with the cool bag lady. She runs a small daycare out of her home and got the idea about six months ago to do this project. I think I will be donating quit a bit to her bags4darfur project.... these will make great gifts.

Water taxi = summer

Water taxi = summer, originally uploaded by mdcellphoto.

Our infamous water taxi season starts this weekend and is one of the first signs that summer is here. Their "spring" schedule starts next week, but we all know summer is officially here when they start gliding up and down the Red.

No buds on the trees, but..., originally uploaded by mdcellphoto.

Went for a walk in the woods today hoping to take some photos of spring growth. Its been a dry month and all I could find was dead grass and old leaves. Usually there's new buds on the trees, but all I found was this guiness in a tree. Interesting though I would have preferred a bud.

About - Mike Deal - Cell Phone - Photojournalist

Mike Deal is a Winnipeg based photographer who has worked at the Winnipeg Free Press since 2001.

This is a collection of photographs that I have made with my cell phone that are emailed to Flickr which has been set up to automatically make a blog post here. The photos are unprocessed (mostly… I may rotate them sometimes because my phone won’t and maybe I might colour correct a photo if I have time and think it worthy) and reflect the situations that I find myself in, whether I’m at work as a photojournalist or out and about away from my professional camera gear.

I am hoping that I will be able to explore life with a 2MP camera phone in a way that will be creative and unusual…
